Bart Dorsa - Glasstress Gotika
Glasstress Gotika was a joint project of the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia and the Berengo Studios of Venice, Italy. A sidebar event in the 2015 Biennale Art Show, Glasstress Gotika was on view from May 9th, 2015. The exhibition brought together over 50 internationally renowned artists from all over the world to explore the effect Gothic and medieval ideas have had on modern consciousness and contemporary art.
American artist Bart Dorsa took part in the Glasstress 2015 Gotika project, curated by Dmitry Ozerkov and Adriano Berengo – a collateral event of the 56th Art Exhibition, co-organised by the State Hermitage Museum and the Berengo Studio.
For Glasstress Gotika, Dorsa further developed his ongoing Crossroads project, part of which was presented at the 55thVenice biennale in Bart Dorsa. Katya exhibition. Dorsa’s new work Relic Glass #1, specially made for Glasstress 2015, immediately evokes the dark chamber housing the “relics of Saint Katia”, as noted by Philippe Dagen in his review of the exhibition for Le Monde. Relic Glass # 1 is a fragmented body sculpture, which explores the concept of femininity. Its ragged outlines symbolizing suffering and pain are suggestive of female martyrs, like Joan of Arc – and glass, of course, is also connected to fire. Crystal clear and filled with light, the sculpture is devoid of corporality, despite its meticulously accurate representation of the body.
360 Degrees Film were proud to collaborate with Bart Dorsa in the mounting and management of the Glasstress Gotika exhibition.
