El Greco, directed by Yannis Smaragdis in 2006, is a Greek film about the life of painter Domenicos Theotokopoulos, best known as El Greco.
The film follows the story of the famous artist, his decision to leave his homeland, Crete, and his journey to Venice and, finally, Toledo. It is an epic tale of El Greco’s search for love and freedom, and the confrontation with his greatest enemy: the Spanish Inquisition.
El Greco received nominations in a number of film festivals around the world, such as the Cairo International Film Festival, the Goya Awards and the Thessaloniki Film Festival.
El Greco stars Nick Ashdon, as Domenicos Theotokopoulos, Juan Diego Botto, Lakis Lazopoulos and Laia Marull.
360 Degrees Film was in charge of production support for all the scenes shot in Venice.
