Directed by Andrea Segre and photographed by Luca Bigazzi, Io Sono Li (Shun Li and The Poet) was released to great acclaim and won several prizes, including the Lux Prize from European Union.
Zhao Tao plays Li, a Chinese woman who comes to Italy to work and experiences firsthand the difficulties an immigrant find living in an unfamiliar foreign country. Zhao Tao’s performance won her the esteemed Donatello prize as lead actress in a feature film. It was shot almost completely in Chioggia, a small and beautiful city on the Venetian Lagoon. Among the other actors who make up the cast were the unforgettable Rade Szerbedjia, along with Marco Paolini, Giuseppe Battiston and Roberto Citran.
Many of the characters were played by non-professional actors who were found locally, giving the story a unique atmosphere.
The other locations seen in the film are Rome, the Lido of Venice and Padua.
Io Sono Li was a co-production with Jole Film, Aeternam Film and Rai Cinema with the full support of 360 Degrees Film.
